Maintain Balance Between Good and Evil . . .

True Neutral

A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn’t feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil-after all, she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, she’s not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way.

Some neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run.

Neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion.

Neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.

The “true” neutral looks upon all other alignments as facets of the system of many things. Thus, each aspect–evil and good, chaos and law–of things must be retained in balance to maintain the status quo; for things as they are cannot be improved upon except temporarily, and even then but superficially. Nature will prevail and keep things as they were meant to be, provided the “wheel” surrounding the hub of nature does not become unbalanced due to the work of unnatural forces–such as human and other intelligent creatures interfering with what is meant to be. Absolute, or true, neutral creatures view everything which exists as an integral, necessary part or function of the entire cosmos. Each thing exists as a part of the whole, one as a check or balance to the other, with life necessary for death, happiness for suffering, good for evil, order for chaos, and vice versa. Nothing must ever become predominant or out of balance. Within this naturalistic ethos, humankind serves a role also, just as all other creatures do. The may be more or less important, but the neutral does not concern himself or herself with these considerations except where it is positively determined that the balance is threatened. Absolute neutrality is the central or fulcrum position quite logically, as the neutral sees all other alignments as parts of a necessary whole. This alignment is the narrowest in scope. (1)

True neutral characters are concerned with their own well-being and that of the group or organization which aids them. They may behave in a good manner to those that they consider friends and allies, but will only act maliciously against those who have tried to injure them in some way. For the rest, they do not care. They do not wish ill on those they do not know, but they also do not care when they hear of evil befalling them. Better for others to suffer the evil than the true neutral and his allies. If an ally is in need, the true neutral will aid him, out of genuine love or because he may be able to count on that ally a little more in the future. If someone else is in need, they will weigh the options of the potential rewards and dangers associated with the act. If an enemy is in need, they will ignore him or take advantage of his misfortune.

True neutrals are offended by those who are opinionated or bigoted. A “hell-fire and brimstone” lawful good priest is just as offensive as a neutral evil racial supremacist in their eyes. They do not necessarily strive for philosophical balance. In fact, they may avoid philosophical considerations altogether. A true neutral may take up the cause of his nation, not because he necessarily feels obligated to do so, but because it just makes sense to support the group that protects your way of life. True neutrals tend to believe in lex talionis forms of justice.

However, a true neutral being with a highly philosophical outlook may hold that law, chaos, good, and evil are all necessary forces in the universe. But all are of equal import, and none should be allowed to take precedence over another, unless an imbalance should be perceived–in which case corrective steps must be taken until the balance is righted once again. Hence, the motives of a highly philosophical true neutral character are perhaps the most difficult for any other alignment to fathom, for such a true neutral being will usually act first to preserve the balance, second if he deems it his business, and third if it is in his own best interests. For these reasons, being nature’s mediators, true neutral characters should be diplomatic and tactful, but they may also come across as being strange and enigmatic until one gets to know them and their “world view” better. This is because some true neutral beings look far beyond the immediate situation to the overall balance of the cosmos. Most true neutral characters will, throughout their lives, tend more or less toward one of the other alignments, dependent upon their perception of the state of the world and what force should be balanced. Such a “deviation” will be temporary, until the true neutral being recognizes and modifies his actions in accordance with the new balance. For example, once the strong evil forces in an area have been conquered, and the balance restored, the true neutral character will stop acting “good.” In, addition, this attitude of balance will ordinarily be reflected in a true neutral’s choice of companions and should thus be demonstrated with reasonable consistency. As all things in the cosmos are equally important and necessary, life is as valuable as death to the true neutral being, because life is inevitably followed by death. In this character’s view, one’s time will come when it is supposed to come, and no sooner or later. (2)

True neutral is typically the most misunderstood of all alignments. One common misconception is thinking that true neutral characters seek a balance by deliberately following a certain alignment one day and an entirely different alignment the next. Such behavior makes true neutral characters unpredictable, and the cumulative effect promotes chaos more than anything else. True neutral characters tend to remain nonjudgmental and uncommitted to any moral, legal, or philosophical system beyond the basic tenets of their own society. Despite this fact, true neutral beings do not resent being into struggles involving different viewpoints. True neutral individuals do not lack interest, ambition, or passion–they value their own well-being and that of friends and loved ones. They may struggle passionately on behalf of themselves or others, as well as feel compassion for those they barely know. In fact, since most humans are true neutral, it is the alignment of the majority of people encountered in day-to-day situations. (3)

A true neutral character will keep his word if in his best interest. He may attack an unarmed foe if he feels it necessary. He will not kill, but may harm an innocent. He may use torture to extract information, but never for pleasure. He will never kill for pleasure, only in self-defense or in the defense of others. A true neutral character may use poison as long as there is an overwhelming need. He will help those in need if it is in his best interest and works well alone or in a group. He responds well to higher authority until that authority attempts to use the law to hamper his ability to pursue his own self-interest. He will follow the law unless breaking it is in his best interest and he’s reasonably sure that he will not be caught. He will never betray a family member, comrade, or friend unless the situation is dire. True neutral characters are indifferent to the concepts of self-discipline and honor, finding them useful only if they can be used to advance their own interests. (4)

Here are some possible adjectives describing true neutral characters: diplomatic, judgmental, enigmatic, aloof, distant, self-reliant, mediatory, even-handed, fair, indifferent, and impartial.

Well known true neutral characters from film or literature include: The Watchers (Marvel Comics), Horace Slughorn (Harry Potter), and Tom Bombadil (Lord of the Rings).

Equivalent alignment in other game systems: Neutral (Warhammer).

The Ten Neutral Commandments

A list of Ten Commandments for a true neutral religion may look like this:

1. You shall avoid lies.

2. You shall not kill the innocent.

3. You shall not murder.

4. You shall help the needy if such action aids yourself.

5. You shall honor those who honor you.

6. You shall follow the law unless breaking the law can advance you without harming others.

7. You shall not betray others unless your life is in jeopardy.

8. You shall aid those who aid you and harm those who harm you.

9. You shall not promote an extreme viewpoint.

10. You shall advance yourself without harming others.

Ten True Neutral Sins

Likewise, a true neutral religion may list the following as sins. This list is given in the order of least severe infraction to most severe.

1. Trying to persuade others to take a stance on a moral or ethical issue.

2. Failing to assist a friend or ally.

3. Killing for any reason other than survival.

4. Breaking your word to a friend or ally, unless life is threatened.

5. Needless torture.

6. Making a sacrifice for someone unrelated to you.

7. Refusing to kill when important to your survival.

8. Betraying an ally or friend, unless life is in danger.

9. Showing mercy to a dire enemy.

10. Taking sides in a conflict that doesn’t affect your survival.

The True Neutral Adventurer

The following two lists detail common actions undertaken during “adventuring” that are considered honorable and dishonorable for the true neutral alignment. An honorable action is one that is in keeping with the spirit of this alignment, while dishonorable actions tend to be those which bring shame to the character in the eyes of his or her alignment peers. Note that an action which is considered honorable by one alignment may be considered dishonorable by another alignment and vice versa.

The following actions are honorable for this alignment:

Defeating a superior opponent

Dirty Fighting

Fleeing a fight with a superior opponent

Gloating over a victory

Perpetrate humiliating prank on enemy

The following actions are dishonorable for this alignment:

Allowing the enemy to attack first

Being taken prisoner

Convicted of a crime

Defeated by an inferior opponent

Killing a host who has provided you food or shelter

Surrendering

Treason

True Neutral and Society

A true neutral being…

Values his family, but will not heed their requests necessarily.

Will provide for friends, and expects to be repaid in some manner.

Does not seek positions of authority over others.

Fits in with their society.

Supports their nation.

Supports the law when advantageous to do so.

Is not concerned with politics, most likely.

Will keep his word, generally.

Will take risks if the benefits are great.

Will not aid family members in need if personal discomfort is required.

Will not betray a family member, unless the circumstances are dire.

Has few close friends and would never betray those he has, unless circumstances are dire.

Is generally well liked by his community, but normally will not seek to improve the community.

Will support his nation when profitable to do so, but will not act against his nation if profitable.

Believes people deserve the treatment they are willing to endure.

Is not concerned with those less fortunate.

Will not harm others for profit.

A true neutral government rarely influences the community. Those in power prefer to pursue their private goals. True neutral societies tend to adopt whatever government seems most expedient at the moment. A particular form of government lasts as long as the ruler or dynasty in power can maintain it. The people cooperate when it suits them. Such true neutral territories often act as buffer states between lands of extreme alignment difference (for example, between a lawful good barony and a vile chaotic evil principality). They shift allegiance artfully to preserve their borders against the advances of both sides in a conflict.

True Neutral and Other Alignments

True Neutral vs. Neutral Good

Neutral good and true neutral characters both believe that any means should be used to achieve desirable outcomes, but they disagree on exactly what types of outcomes are desirable. The neutral good character uses a variety of means to promote and further the cause of goodness, but true neutral characters are not interested in a selfless pursuit of beneficial results for others. Where neutral good characters are altruistic, true neutral characters are interested in their own affairs. True neutral characters will behave altruistically when it comes to friends, relatives, and allies, but for the most part will return the kind of treatment they receive from others. Neutral good characters, on the other hand, will behave altruistically even when dealing with others who are not friends or relatives, and may even forgive enemies that have done them grievous harm in the past (provided their enemy has truly mended his ways). True neutral characters will not extend the olive branch in such situations and may take advantage of their enemy’s weakness to protect themselves from further machinations. True neutral characters follow a morality of reciprocity. Neutral good characters follow the Golden Rule.

True Neutral vs. Neutral Evil

Although true neutral and neutral evil characters are both primarily interested in their own advancement and welfare, neutral evil characters ruthlessly pursue their self-interest, even at the expense of others. The true neutral character will use any means to benefit themselves, but will not follow this philosophy to its extreme conclusion through an unrestrained pursuit of self-interest. The true neutral character understands that more benefit for the self can be garnered by behaving altruistically sometimes, especially when they have been the beneficiaries of the altruistic behavior of others. If someone treats a true neutral character well, they can expect that character to treat them well. The neutral evil character does not believe that one good turn deserves another, however. The neutral evil character will of course accept the altruistic generosity of others, and may even appear to return the favor on occasion. The neutral evil character will not behave altruistically for the benefit of others, only for the benefit of the self. Any actions which seem good are merely actions which the neutral evil character has determined will give him a greater benefit in the future, often to the detriment of their benefactor. If someone treats a neutral evil character well, they can only expect good treatment from that character as long as the current relationship offers the best advantage to him. As soon as the neutral evil character can benefit to a greater degree by betraying his benefactor, he will. True neutral characters see such behavior as detrimental to self-interest (and unfair to those who have helped them) and thus will not betray benefactors. Neutral evil characters have no such qualms about burning bridges if the reward is great enough.

True Neutral vs. Lawful Neutral

Lawful neutral and true neutral characters are similar in their morality. Both of these types will tend to return the treatment they receive from others. They differ in their outlook concerning legitimate authority and the structure of society. True neutral characters believe that laws should be followed as long as the law benefits themselves. They will also follow laws out of fear of punishment. If they can break a law which does not support their self-interest, and there is a good chance that they will not be caught breaking the law, true neutral characters may break laws. However, true neutral characters prefer to follow the law, because usually it is in their best interest to follow laws. Lawful neutral characters follow laws not only for their own self-interest, but also because they believe that one should always follow the law, even laws that run counter to self-interest. The lawful neutral character takes issue with the true neutral because the true neutral character will readily admit that he mostly benefits from the law, but he will not go out of his way to support the law. True neutral characters feel that lawful neutral characters are too obsessed with established laws and customs to realize that they may be better able to support their own interests by advancing personal freedom as well as law and order.

True Neutral vs. Chaotic Neutral

Chaotic neutral and true neutral characters have a similar moral outlook. They tend to follow a morality of reciprocity, behaving altruistically toward benefactors and egoistically toward malefactors. Their difference involves their outlook on laws and society. The true neutral character wants to work within the law and will observe most customs and mores because it it in their best interest to do so. True neutral characters don’t want to “rock the boat” but will on occasion if their self-interest is overwhelmingly served by breaking the law or flouting custom. The chaotic neutral character sees no value in laws, customs, or mores. A chaotic neutral character may appear to follow many laws, but does not do so because they believe in any inherent value to such systems. The chaotic neutral character believes in the pure freedom to pursue their own self-interest (and for others to pursue their own interests in the same manner). Although the true neutral character does not believe that the law should be followed all of the time, neither do they believe that laws are completely useless. They believe that chaotic neutral characters actually limit themselves by refusing to consider that sometimes self-interest can best be served by order in society. Chaotic neutral characters feel that true neutral characters limit themselves by paying lip service to laws and customs that they do not necessarily support.

The Philosophy of True Neutral

True neutral is the philosophy that harmony and freedom are both important in society and that altruism and egoism are both legitimate ends. It is a philosophy of pure equitistic consequentialism. This philosophy holds that people should pursue a rational self-interest while balancing the needs of the state or social order with the freedom of individuals to pursue their own agenda. True neutral can also be associated with ethical equitism and skepticism. As the philosophical “average” of altruism and egoism, equitism holds that harm to others should be minimized when advancing the self and that harm to the self should be minimized when advancing others.

True neutral philosophers generally maintain that there is metaphysical balance in the multiverse and thus may support doctrines of soft determinism, pragmatism, conventionalism, and/or instrumentalism. They may believe in free will or choice. They could also embrace skepticism or suspend judgment on philosophical issues. They tend to be moral relativists, holding that values differ from society to society, from person to person; that they are conditioned by the peculiarities of the society in which they arise; that they are not universally applicable at all times or in all places; and that they are correct or incorrect, desirable or undesirable only relative to whether or not they conform to a common norm or to common acceptance.

The ideal government for this alignment is any social order that balances the needs of the state and the individual and allows beings to pursue their own interests as long as they do not violate the rights of others. True neutral beings want the benefits of the social order to be applied equally to all. Any form of justice that is fair and impartial is desirable.

Cyber Predators ( warning : mature content ) . . .

Sex is a necessity of mankind. Degrees just vary as to why people study, practice and perfect it.

Sex is necessary for the survival of the human race, scientifically speaking. Most people 'make love' to express their feelings to their partners. Some people dive into it to feel acceptance. Some people do it because they are curious and they want to experience 'the tingling stuff'... and there are some who just can't control their sensual urges among other reasons. LoL!

Several weeks ago, I watched a show on cable TV entitled "Katie.com" which is about a girl named Katie Tarbox. She was a victim of an Internet pedophile — known nowadays as a "cyber predator".

"Five years ago, when I was 13, one of my favorite activities was to surf the Net
and make new friends. The Web was a welcoming place that made me feel
completely comfortable. That is, until I met Mark – a man who tricked me into
believing he was 23. We had a six-month online romance, ending when he lured
me into a hotel room and molested me. Police later told me he was really 41
and had a history of stalking young girls."
Katie Tarbox

When they did reenactments on the show, I pictured this girl as a part of me. I also have few friends IRL. I saw the Internet (and online games) as a medium to meet new and interesting people from all over the globe (and from all walks of life). I even met my boyfriend online!!! [story : click here]

I broke down when Katie started narrating the horrible things that happened to her inside the hotel room with the man she trusted (and probably loved) so much. That made me realize how lucky I am because Dada (my boyfriend) never took advantage of me.

I am not sure which Sky Cable channel featured Katie.com … It's either FOXCRIME, NatGeo or Discovery… I forgot! Anyway, after the girl's heart-breaking story, they showed a division of either the government or a local police department (I forgot too, really) whose job is to chat, meet-up then arrest cyber predators. There was a woman who acted as a bait and she disguised herself as a 14-year old boy (yes, b-o-y). She met up with a CP in a famous food joint (I think it was McDonald's). She was dressed so well that the old man didn't even realize that it's just a facade! LoL! The police arrested him after he walked out of the food joint with his 'potential victim'.

That was AWESOME! *two thumbs up*

Dada and I recently watched a show in CS-Origins (a channel on Destiny Cable) and it involved a non-profit organization called Perverted-Justice. Their stint is also to attract cyber predators to chat with their org volunteers (pretending to be teenagers in chatrooms) and hold an eyeball. They will lure the CPs into one of their rented houses then surprise them with interrogations and video footages of the 'potential crime'. They successfully invited about 18 CPs in two days! LoL! Super laugh-trip! I know that their intentions are just, but the execution is quite disturbing.

Anyway . . .

*****************************************************************************
TIPS ON HOW TO PREVENT CYBER PREDATORS
*****************************************************************************

1) Protect your Profile.

Any website, not just chatrooms, that features real-time interaction can have both predators and prey… I use the Yahoo Messenger to chat with my friends, colleagues and online buddies.

When I was just a newbie, my YM ID was made PUBLIC in the Yahoo Directory. I also had the habit of putting my Photos on the profile page. That attracted a lot of perverts who kept on buzzing me and asking me to actually MARRY them! Yes, if I am evil enough, I'd even post their YM ID.

Solution: I disabled the public feature in Yahoo so that my online status in their Directory will not be shown to anyone. I also make sure to add on my Contact List only the people I know and can fully trust. The contents on my websites are also filtered depending on the relation type I have with my contacts. The more personal stuff like home address, emails and phone numbers are limited to family, friends, and business contacts..

2) Choose your online buddies carefully.

If you enter a chat room just to make friends, make sure that your conversation doesn't go off-topic. Chat rooms have titles on them and normally, the subject revolves around it. E.g. Chatroom title is "Alternative Rock", obviously, you talk about the music genre so keep your discussions related to it. All else will just follow once you build trust with one another (and it takes time, believe me!). True-bloods will never inject anything not related to their chat room title, most of the time. Only posers do that!

3) Consider everyone you chat with for the first time as BIG FAT LIARS!

Not everyone can afford a webcam. LoL! So, if the person you're chatting with doesn't show his/her face real-time, consider him/her as an old fugly devil. Do not feel too comfortable unless there's another person or a group of people who can testify that he/she is trustworthy.

4) Tell yourself "Cyber Predators exist" before a fateful eyeball.

I am aware of maniacs lurking on the Internet. I know some girls who became pregnant because they had a one-night-stand with the men they met on a chatroom.

I still took my safety into consideration before having an eyeball with Dada. I informed my mom about this. She laughed when I told her that I was meeting my boyfriend for the first time. Hehe~!

It was a risky move to meet-up with him alone but I had my mind set to hugging the man that I would love for the rest of my life… I am so lucky he's not one of those cyber predators!

5) Do not give in to their wishes.

Lots of guys (and possibly some horny bitches) on the Internet will ask you to do things that you might not be comfortable doing. It's okay to say "NO"

I had bad experiences with webcams that's why I promised myself not make mine public ever again. A college batchmate added me to his friends list in YM and we had several nice chit-chat. After a while, he asked me to do erotic poses. Of course, I declined and I immediately blocked his YM ID. I heard from our common friends that he lost his two arms due to an accident — that is what I call KARMA!

6) If you sense it coming, then act QUICKLY!

I think this applies to all types of harassments, not just those due to CPs.

I've read so many articles and personal blog entries regarding well-endowed women who were sexually abused and/or teenage girls who become victims of statutory rape. They seek JUSTICE!

But honestly, part of the blame goes to them… and I just laugh at their weakness. Why?

If a canon ball is blasted in your direction, will you let it HIT you? NO. You will run away and do your very best EVADE it. Adrenaline rush!

Same goes for harassment. The reason why perverts exist is because women allow themselves to be victims.

If a potential cyber predator asks you to make out with him – in an isolated room, alone – and you know that you'd definitely regret it, would you still go in? Of course – not!

So the truth finally comes out… Your chatmate turns out to be older than what he states on your IM conversation. So he's really not gorgeous. So you find out that he's married and has kids!!!

Once the signs are smacking in your face, it's best to get out of there before anything nasty happens. That's the smartest thing to do!

Prevention is better than cure.

7) Don't be tongue-tied. Report it ASAP!

Okay, so libido rose and the harassment did happen.

So what now?

REPORT IT TO THE AUTHORITIES before he picks another victim like you!
.

*****************************************************************************

So there … *Ehem* these are just my opinion and two cents … what might be right for me might be sickening for you. That's why it's called "MY OPINION" … Anyway, thanks for reading.

Farewell, Mama . . .

It's time for us to pay last respects to Mama and she will be taken to the Manila Chinese Cemetery.

I reached Loyola Memorial around 8:15 AM and they were just about to start the mass. Everyone was dressed semi-casually, with their white shirts matched with black pants. I was wearing my one-and-only white t-shirt and my black lolita skirt. I hugged Dada as if no arguments happened yesterday. I wanted to set my pride aside and focus on Mama's last day with us. We sat beside the priest and I felt really uneasy.

The priest who conducted the mass today was different and we all liked him. Not only that he's nice, his homily was also meaningful. A part of his message was three important things : gratefulness, forgiveness and love. He said that we should set aside the small arguments and learn to forgive one another so we can have a better outlook in life. That struck me really hard. Dada and his cousin, Ate Leslie, also started crying. I hugged Dada but I didn't know what to say. "She is in a better place now." is what came to my mind but that's too cliché so I just kept silent as I wiped his tears. I looked around and noticed that Kuya Ricky, Kuya Sonny, Ate Ella, Ate Lanie (also Dada's cousins) and Ate Christine (wife of Tito Jimboy) were in tears as well. Lorraine and the rest of Mama's grandchildren also started crying. I worried about Tita Star, Dada's mom, too since she's the daughter of Mama and I know she's the most vulnerable person in that room. I was also feeling uneasy but Dada held my right hand, kissed my forehead and said "Peace be with you." I hugged him really tight and I smiled. It's as if all those ill-feelings went away.

Mama's casket was opened and each of them blessed her with Holy Water. Dada began crying again but I stayed in our seat because his family was there naman to comfort him. When he got back, I wiped his tears with the hanky he gave me. It's really weird because I don't know what to do that time.

Dada asked me if I still remember what Mama told me the first time I met her. Tears just fell from my eyes and I wasn't able to control them. Mama told me before to take good care of her grandson and I should give him the same amount of love that she has given. I promised her that I will do just that. It's ironic that when Sempai James (my schoolmate and mentor) died a few years ago, I promised him that I'd take good care of Paolo (my ex-boyfriend) … but I never got to fulfill that promise. I hope Sempai forgives me … This time, I want to fulfill my promise to Mama.

After the mass, we went outside the room and ate champorado and stockfish (tuyo). We also played DJ Max 2 and I often lost but it's okay because the important thing is that I saw Dada smiling again.

Around 10AM, we left Loyola Memorial and proceeded to the Manila Chinese Cemetery. A few minutes after we got off the car, the cremation started. All the family members entered the cremation room and some became hysterical, especially Tita Star. she almost fainted so everyone attended to her and calmed her down. Kuya Sonny sat beside me and I saw him crying so I tapped his shoulder and smiled. It's so rare for me to see men crying and that really shows how much they love her.

While we're waiting for the cremation to finish, Jollibee meals were distributed by Mama's grandchildren. Jacinta, Ate Leslie's daughter, gave me one. I waited for Dada so we could eat together. I didn't want to touch my food unless the commotion is finished.

Mama's remains were finally taken to her resting place around 2:30 PM and her ashes were buried beside Lolo Papa, her husband. It's Chinese tradition to burn Joss papers to ensure that the dead will have money in the afterlife so Dada gave me a few pieces and taught me how to roll them up properly. Ate Leslie also gave me four incense sticks and Tita Star taught me how to use them. I was really nervous during the whole process! Colorful talismans also surrounded Mama's coffin but I don't know if those're used to ward off evil spirits or contain them. We were also advised not to go home directly as the bad omen may follow us so Ate Leslie offered an early-dinner in Aristocrat. The traffic was severe in Manila so Dada and I got back in the condo around 8PM already.

********** I granted Dada's wish not to have any photos of Mama shown.

Random Stuff again . . .

====================================

REGARDING PEOPLE-MOCKING-OTHER-PEOPLE:

it's everywhere … scrutinizing someone or something that does not appeal to us is part of being human.

im sure, all of us already said "THAT'S SO UGLY!" or "EEEWWW!" or anything like that at least ONCE.

there will always be people and things that we will not like and we tend to criticize them. if you say that you have never ridiculed anyone or anything in your entire life, then you're not human. you must be a god!

====================================

REGARDING FRIENDSHIP:

if a person chooses to be with a particular group just because they're all gorgeous and/or rich, then that person is not really after friendship. that person merely wants to fit in, get attention and be popular. common interests, acceptance and care are the foundations of a true friendship.

we cant please everyone. people have different tastes and there will always be conflicts … so, people select their friends … hot chicks and blokes ; cheaps and cheesy ; gorgeous men for beautiful women ; the rich and the famous ; nerds with geeks ; cosplayers and animé otakus (hehehe!) … even so, the reason why they form a particular group that's different from others is because they share the same interests, they feel that they belong and they are happy with each others' company.

====================================

REGARDING RELATIONSHIPS :

i still believe that love, communication and understanding are what keep relationships alive. having a partner who is rich+famous+gorgeous is a big bonus, but it should never be a must. although it's part of human nature to select someone who can give him / her the best things life can offer. that depends on how a person defines "the best things in life" … ^_^

====================================

REGARDING SOCIAL STATUS :

all people are born equal. cliché but that's the truth. we all didnt have clothes and are covered in blood when we appeared in this world. however, we are brought up by our families in different ways. some are well-fed while some are not. some kids are satisfied playing "patintero" while some demand Nintendo Wii's. some are lucky with life, some are unfortunate. some are content, some are never satisfied.

life is never fair so it's up to us on how we can cope up with it.

Photo-Theft …

Ahh … I recently got agitated when I read an online buddy's thought about him being dubbed as a "photo-stealer."

Of course, he must've felt angry when he was called a thief … but judging from what I saw, I'd also call him one.

he said …

"Now photographers say that they are “possessive” of their photos, OK, no problem with that, but do know that once you put them photos at the internet, it is now accessible and downloadable to EVERYONE around the world. Don’t be like the eldest brother in the story. Label your photos, and label them well. And to some lazy photographers, if you really are possessive of your photos you will do that. And if you don’t like people in the net using your photos, don’t put them on the net then."

He was referring to his analogy of the "eldest bro leaves bread on the table then youngest bro eats it ; none of the brothers confessed, thus leaving the eldest angry" thing.

Granted that all photos published on the internet are "up for grabs" but at least show a little appreciation to whoever you got the photo from.

Lack of ethics.

What he did was edit the photo, put in the model's name, his website URL and that's it. No credits to the photographer. He put a hyperlink to the source of the photo on his blog entry but I don't think that's enough. I mean, he managed to edit the picture that far, so why didn't he bother including the URL where he got the photo from? If the URL is too long, why not simply put "Photo source : < insert photog's name or website title >" or something like that. What if another person grabs the photo from his blog entry and didn't bother clicking the hyperlink? After a while, that person will forget where he downloaded it.

I'm gonna repeat a part of my comment on his outburst …

"Not all photographers know watermarking techniques. not all of these photographers use digital cameras or photo-editing softwares. A simple credit or recognition is the only 'payment' we give to these awesome photographers. Without them, we will have minimal or no photos at all to post in our websites."

I didn't bother replying to him anymore when he said that he did put credits by adding the hyperlink because it might start a flame war.

… but I hope everyone will get my point.

Finding The Right Person …

.. the words of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ

THE RIGHT PERSON?

During one of our seminars, a woman asked a common question. She said, “How do I know if I married the right person?”

I noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so I said, “It depends. Is that your husband?” In all seriousness, she answered, “How do you know?”

Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it’s weighing on your mind.

Here’s the answer.

EVERY relationship has a cycle. In the beginning, you fell in love with your spouse. You anticipated their call, wanted their touch, and liked their idiosyncrasies.

Falling in love with your spouse wasn’t hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn’t have to DO anything. That’s why it’s called “falling” in love… because it’s happening TO YOU. People in love sometimes say, “I was swept off my feet.”

Think about the imagery of that _expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something came along and happened TO YOU.

Falling in love is easy. It’s a passive and spontaneous experience.

But after a few years of marriage, the euphoria of love fades.

It’s the natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouse’s idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts.

The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship, but if you think about your marriage, you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage.

At this point, you and/or your spouse might start asking, “Did I marry the right person?” And as you and your spouse reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when marriages breakdown. People blame their spouse for their unhappiness and look outside their marriage for fulfillment.

Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most obvious. But sometimes people turn to work, church, a hobby, a friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances.

But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your marriage. It lies within it. I’m not saying that you couldn’t fall in love with someone else. You could.

And TEMPORARILY you’d feel better. But you’d be in the same situation a few years later. Because (listen carefully to this):

THE KEY TO SUCCEEDING IN MARRIAGE IS NOT FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON. IT’S LEARNING TO LOVE THE PERSON YOU FOUND.

SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. It will NEVER just happen to you. You can’t “find” LASTING love. You have to “make” it day in and day out. That’s why we have the _expression “the labor of love.” Because it takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it takes WISDOM . You have to know WHAT TO DO to make your marriage work.

Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things that you can do (with or without your spouse) to succeed with your marriage. Just as there are physical laws of the universe (such as gravity), there are also laws for relationships.

Just as the right diet and exercise program makes you physically stronger, certain habits in your relationship WILL make your marriage stronger. It’s a direct cause and effect. And if you know and apply the laws, the results are predictable… you can “make” love.

Love in marriage is indeed a “decision”… not just a feeling.
