3D Movies . . .

I’ve been watching too many films in the recent years but I don’t always write my opinion about them unless they’re either very good or very bad… Sometimes, I’m just too bored to write. LoL!

Animated films are still my favorite among all the other genres. I am a big fan of PIXAR and Dreamworks. It’s a good thing that other companies are also trying out their hands on 3D films — such as Disney, BlueSky and some others I can’t remember at the moment.

Anyway …

These are some of the not-so-recent movies that caught my attention but I’m too bored to write an article for each of them. LoL!

Tangled is a story about Rapunzel, a girl who dreamed of seeing “the stars” that mysteriously appear during her birthday. With the help of Flynn Rider, she not only discovered what those mysterious stars were, she also found out that the world around her is much more different than how her mother described it.

It’s perfect as Disney’s 50th animated film! Story, animation, voice acting and musical scoring — they all get 5 STARS from me.

Give a Day to Get a Day . . .

"After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws' kingdom, what's an ogre to do? Well, if you're Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What's happened to this ogre's roar? Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all he's done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love." — Yahoo! movies

Shrek exchanged one day (the day when he wasn't even born) with Rumpelstiltskin to reminisce the feeling of being a feared ogre again and because of this, the events that were supposed to happen in Far Far Away never occured. Instead, Rumpel took over the kingdom; Donkey works for Rumpel and the witches, Fiona leads "The Resistance" — a group of Ogres fighting for freedom, and Puss became Fiona's pampered pet! LoL! Shrek then realizes his mistakes and musters all his willpower to fulfill Rumpel's "exit clause" which will revert everything back to the way things were supposed to be.

It is very rare for an animation film to have sequels and don't mess up. Neither Shrek : Forever After nor any of its predecessors are at par with any Pixar films I watched. Still, it did deliver so many funny moments that made me laugh so much!

Whenever Puss is around (especially when he's with Donkey), there will never be a dull moment! Rumpelstiltskin's voice actor is also very amazing! He is like the counterpart of Bolt's Rhino! Match it up with the animation itself — the 3D rendition they had for this film is much better than Shrek 3.

I watched Shrek Forever After  in two occasions : 1) in Robinson's Galleria with Dada, and, 2) with my mom and my silblings in SM North as a part of my birthday celebration.

Pet Dragons ! ! !

"A Viking teenager named Hiccup lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen's smarts and offbeat sense of humor don't sit too well with his tribe or its chief… who just happens to be Hiccup's father. However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down, and what started out as Hiccup's one shot to prove himself turns into an opportunity to set a new course for the future of the entire tribe." — Yahoo! movies

Mom, Popay and I watched "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D. I somehow regret watching it in 3D because there was just a handful of special effects that really "popped out" … Although, in total, it was still a great film.

It was fun seeing the characters flying around and hovering over the ocean (it reminded me of the "One-hundred Mile Dash" cut-scene from The Incredibles). I was really focusing on the screen while Hiccup and Toothless learn from one another. Hiccup is like a NatGeo scientist going into a Crock territory trying to discover more about them. LoL!

Dreamworks has proven that not all their products are cr@p!

So far, I have two faves from Dreamworks. This one and Kung Fu Panda.

Larger than Life . . .

"When California girl Susan Murphy is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound. There, she is renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of other monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. In a moment of desperation, The President is persuaded by General W.R. Monger to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the world from imminent destruction." Yahoo Movies

The trailers were so funny that's why I wanted to watch this Dreamworks product. There were so many things I didn't expect!

The Beverly Hills Cop theme "Axel F" revealed my age! LoL! The President reminded me of my former boss – they have an uncanny physical resemblance! XD

Although the background of each character was funny and unique, the whole plot was very predictable. So, aside from the animation and the inside jokes, there's nothing much to look at.

Two movies yet again ! ! !

Madagascar : Escape 2 Africa

"Left marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane – sort of. Once aloft, this unlikely crew stays airborne just long enough to make it to the wildest place of all — the vast plains of Africa itself — where our zoo-raised crew encounters species of their own kind for the very first time. While discovering their roots, they quickly realize the differences between the concrete jungle and the heart of Africa. Despite long-lost relatives, romantic rivals and scheming hunters, Africa seems like a "crack-a-lackin" great place…but is it better than their Central Park home?" Yahoo Movies

The quartet (together with the penguins, lemurs and chimps) are all very funny and entertaining despite the fact that the story itself is quite common, having to deal with family, friendship, love and identity issues.

City of Ember

"For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights–underground. Built as a refuge for humanity and powered by a massive generator, this City will only sustain for 200 years. Now Ember is falling into darkness as the generator fails. Despite growing concern for the future of their beloved City, Ember's students find themselves confronting the next step in their lives." – Yahoo Movies

… I really hate scifi-fantasy films produced by Walden Media … nuff said

Even the fat ones can do Kung-Fu ! ! !

"Enthusiastic, big and a little clumsy, Po is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around…which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five — Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey — under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu. But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po puts his heart – and his girth – into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths." Yahoo Movies

One of the few movies that I can consider PERFECT. It's funny amd entertaining. Best of all, it displays awesome CGI and kung-fu moves!

*update Nov.21'08* I also grabbed a DVD copy and I learned how the great Chinese chefs made the noodles.

It’s the Year for Ending Trilogies !!!

After Spiderman, two other movies are ending their third sequels this year!

Shrek the Third

"Far Far Away needs a new king, and unless Shrek can find someone else, he'll be stuck with the gig. He sets off to find the only other possible heir, Fiona's forgotten cousin Artie. While Shrek's away, Prince Charming returns to the kingdom for revenge, and Fiona is about to add a little ogre to the posse! Can Shrek, with the help of his loyal friends Donkey and Puss-in-Boots, save the day?" Yahoo! Movies

Overall, the story is really funny and everyone will enjoy watching it – or at least we know we did! CG is so-so and not so fluid, though.

I never thought Snow White can kick ass! LOL!

Pirates of the Carribean : At World's End

"Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) are allied with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones' locker, while the terrifying ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones, under the control of the East India Trading Company, wreaks havoc across the Seven Seas. Navigating through treachery, betrayal and wild waters, they must forge their way to exotic Singapore and confront the cunning Chinese Pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Now headed beyond the very ends of the earth, each must ultimately choose a side in a final, titanic battle, as not only their lives and fortunes, but the entire future of the freedom-loving Pirate way, hangs in the balance." Yahoo Movies
